Arsenal are planning on reviving their interest in Celta Vigo’s Nolito after a proposed move to Barcelona broke down according to Sport in Spain, a story that has also been picked up by the UK’s media.

Let’s get this clear from the start – Arsenal are not buying Nolito, at least not in this window.

Nolito may well be available but it is Liverpool who apparently are doing all the running with reports of a £13.8m being offered according to talkSPORT.

The forward has eight goals in 15 appearances this season but at 29 is a short-term answer to anyone’s problems and not the sort of player that I feel Arsene Wenger would realistically want, especially not given his track record of shipping out players over 30.

Although he has relaxed that policy somewhat in recent years, out of necessity more than a change of heart, the Arsenal boss would surprise many by dipping into the market for a player at this age.

When you think of the risk of bringing a player to the Premier League, that they most likely need a season to settle in a new country, Liverpool and their scattergun approach to transfers would certainly seem a far more realistic rumour than Arsenal.

Then again, Arsene did once loan a 31-year-old with a broken back, so never say never.
