AST have urged Arsenal to lobby the Premier League for a share of the new TV money to be put towards fairer ticket prices for fans.

The Arsenal’s Supporters Trust, who are acting as part of the Football Supporters Federation alongside United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham fans, believe that the £5.14billion deal which was recently struck, and starts next season, should see supporters given fairer prices at the turnstile.

With overseas rights taking the deal up to a potential £8bn, the fans’ group are calling for a freeze on ticket prices for the three-year duration of the contract as well as £1m to be set aside for the Supporter’s Initiative Fund, an end to away matchday categoristation which sees the likes of Norwich classify Arsenal games as Cat A but their own away trip to the Emirates Cat C meaning the supporters of the Cat A clubs pay top price wherever they go, a cap on away ticket prices and also a reduction in price for fans aged 18-21.

“At a meeting of all Premier League clubs in March 2015 it was agreed that a total of at least £1bn from the total £5.14bn sale of UK live rights will be shared beyond the Premier League in the 2016/17-2018/19 period,” an open letter from AST to Ivan Gazidis read.

“This would include investing in ‘Fan engagement and matchday experience’. We welcome this and thank you for backing this policy.

“The cost of football tickets has been keenly and publicly debated for some time, and we believe you have the opportunity to take practical action to address supporter concerns and send out a positive message about the responsible way the Premier League is utilising the additional TV windfall to engage with supporters and invest in the long-term future of the game.”

Arsenal have already announced that ticket prices will be frozen for next season.
