Arsenal Ladies have signed Liverpool Ladies midfielder Fara Williams.

She is the third signing for Pedro Losa in the winter transfer window.

The England star has had a succesful year being recently nominated for an MBE and marrying her former Everton team-mate Amy Kane last month.

The 31-year-old is an experienced player who has 153 caps for England and is indeed England’s most capped player. She has also played for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics. She scored the winner from the penalty spot in England’s third place play-off against Germany in last year’s World Cup.

Her club career has seen her play for Chelsea Ladies’ youth team and first team until 2001. She then moved for three seasons to Charlton Women, before finding her home at Everton Ladies where she stayed for eight years. She then followed the Liverpool revolution, moving across the Merseyside in order to have full time training with the Reds, where she stayed for another three seasons before signing on for the Gunners.

Her honours list includes two FA WSL championship with Liverpool (2013 and 2014), one FA Women’s Cup with Everton won against Arsenal (2009-10), two FA Women’s Premier League Cup, one with Charlton (2003-04) and one with Everton beating Arsenal again (2007-08).

At international level, she was a silver medalist at Euro 2009 with England and Bronze medal winner at the World Cup 2015.

She will bring a lot of experience to the Ladies side as well as adding depth to the squad in midfield. She can deliver long diagonal balls from either foot with the same chirurgical precision and is also excellent on all set pieces.

She will bring a different profile to the defensive midfield position that we had last season. With her arrival, Pedro Losa will have two or three options per position in the midfield three, which might be a problem when important players don’t get any playing time:

Defensive midfielder #6 type:  Williams, Bailey, Janssen.

Box to box midfielder #8 type: Nobbs, Williamson.

Attacking midfielder #10 type: Van de Donk, Losada, Humphrey, Smith (maybe).
