With Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil cementing themselves within theArsenal squad and becoming key players, speculation has turned to how and when we’ll tie them down to new, improved long-term contracts.

Rumour has it that we’re about to tie Ozil down to the biggest contract in our history and I’d be surprised if we’re not considering something similar for Alexis. However, Wenger admitted on Wednesday that we’re not planning on sorting it out until the end of the season.

“We’ll deal with that later in the season,” the boss said.

“At the moment we’re focusing on the present and the immediate. We’ll deal with that at the end of May.”

It’s not looking likely that either player will want to go anywhere soon so leaving contract negotiations until we’ve got this season out of the way is probably sensible. Of course, as fans we’re anxious to get two of our main men tied down for the foreseeable future but it’s not as simple as that.

In May, we’ll also have more of an idea of where we are as a club, which will probably affect the talks.
