Arsene Wenger has sympathised with Garry Monk following his dismissal as Swansea manager.

Wenger, who has come under a huge amount of scrutiny during his time at Arsenal, claimed that the chairmen of football clubs listen to impatient fans too often and therefore urged them not to.

“Garry Monk surprised me as he had done a good job last year,” Wenger admitted.

“I was quite surprised.

“Why do managers lose their jobs? The modern world is more impatient.

“It is always down to people at the clubs. Public opinion often lives in the present and you could say they need to be stronger than ever to resist to that.”

Our boss has been lucky. Not because he’s ever deserved to be sacked but because most other clubs would have crumbled by now. It’s a testament to just how well he was doing and how hard-up we were for cash at one stage behind the scenes that he wasn’t. It’s also repaid his unwavering loyalty.

At other clubs, a string of bad results in the league means you could wake up one morning without a job.

It’s no wonder that the boss is sticking up for Monk as he could have been in his position if he had been at another club. However, on the other hand, if he’d been at another club who weren’t building a stadium, maybe he never would have had to come under such scrutiny in the first place.
