Sol Campbell has spoken about Calum Chambers’ defending and admitted that he doesn’t believe the 20-year-old is a right-back.

The former Arsenal defender thinks the Englishman is far more suited to the centre and sees him becoming a decent centre back in a few years.

Speaking recently the legend said, “I think he will eventually go into the centre. He’s not a right-back with his stature and shape.

“So he needs to work on his pace, work on his interceptions, his anticipation – all these things he needs to work on to be the complete defender and I think he can.

Chambers has had a tricky time trying to find his position on the pitch for Arsenal. At first he was a right-back, then he admitted he preferred playing centrally and just recently he’s been having a go in midfield for the youth team.

To be fair, the ex-Southampton lad is still young and there’s plenty of time to learn his trade, hone his skills and develop into a stronger player.

Injury has hampered Chambers’ progress at Arsenal and it’s important to keep this in mind. He has plenty of time to come good and prove what Wenger saw in him in the first place.
