A huge talent and currently gaining invaluable experience at Rangers, Gedion Zelalem is flourishing with regular football.

Since he went to Ibrox on loan back in August, Zelalem has started eight Scottish Championship games, only coming out of Mark Warburton’s team when he was called up to represent USA u23s.

He’s yet to score for Rangers but came close at the weekend, playing the whole game as he helped the club reach the Scottish Challenge Cup Final.

Warburton has already expressed his desire to extend the loan deal, which is due to expire in January, and has told the Scottish Sun that he’s optimistic as an agreement appears to be close.

“We’re almost there with Gedion and hopefully he’ll be with us for the rest of the season,” said the English manager. “I thought he was tremendous against St Mirren last Saturday, he’s working hard and is in good shape.”

Since joining Arsenal in 2013, Zelalem has appeared in two first team games, making his debut in the FA Cup defeat of Coventry back in 2014. Last season he played a half in the Champions League, but competition for places means he needs to acclimatise to the professional game away from north London.

Thankfully the spell at Rangers has been a success so far, and it would probably benefit the player to end the season north of the border in order to continue playing regularly to aid his development.
