Winning the ball on the edge of the Arsenal box, Aaron Ramsey started the move for the second goal of the game in Sunday’s win against Aston Villa.

He was also in the middle of the Aston Villa box to finish it just over 10 seconds later.

Playing back in his favoured central role, the Welshman scored against Sunderland a week ago and has now done the same against Aston Villa. However, he isn’t willing to take all the credit for his goal on Sunday.

“It was obviously nice to finish off the move, but it was a great move from us,” he said to Sky Sports after the 2-0 win.

“We saw it was an opportunity to get forward. It was a great ball from Theo in the first place, then the vision from Özil just to play me in to have a simple tap-in was delightful as well. I’m delighted I could finish it off.”

As well as finishing the move, it was Ramsey himself who started it. His defensive strength, huge levels of energy, and desire to get into the box make him a perfect centre-midfielder, but he wouldn’t even accept too much praise for winning the ball to get Arsenal going.

“That’s part of the job in the middle, to win tackles and I’m delighted I started that as well.”

So are we, Aaron.

Ramsey is performing well with Mathieu Flamini alongside him, but the midfield still feels a little makeshift at best. As the January transfer window opens, Arsène Wenger may be tempted to find a better partner for his best central midfielder.
