At the very least, Arsenal need to look into signing a short-term midfield option when the January transfer window opens.

Both Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin are out until at least March, and the Gunners would be mad to rely on Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini to get us to the end of the season with no complications.

So, who to sign?

There are possibly attainable but expensive long-term answers (Ruben Neves, Youri Tielemans?) or maybe more short-term but more proven stop gaps (Ki Sung-Yeung?) but what if we can’t sign any of the above.

Well, according to Telefoot, Adrien Rabiot could ask to leave French giants PSG on loan this winter.

The big-haired midfielder has been playing recently with Marco Verratti injured, but the Italian will play alongside his countryman Thiago Motta when fit, with Rabiot nothing but a backup.

At 20 years of age, Rabiot is clearly eager to play more football sooner rather than later and feels he has to move away from PSG – even temporarily – in order to get more minutes.

A good passer, Rabiot is also physical and endeavours to win the ball back whenever necessary. He may be just the type of midfielder Arsenal need, and it’s worth keeping an eye on this story for any developments.

Should Rabiot get his wish, Arsenal would be an ideal destination for everyone involved.
