Currently in Kenya as part of a Barclays Premier League promotion, Robert Pirès has attempted to capture the hearts of the locals by praising the nation’s star player.

Kenya captain Victor Wanyama is currently a key part of the Southampton midfield, but Pirès would like to see him wearing a different red and white kit in the future.

Having missed out on his partner Morgan Schneiderlin in the summer, the Gunners have been linked with Wanyama, who made no secret of his desire to leave the south coast in the summer.

“I have been able to watch the Kenyan football. It is great,” said the Frenchman.

“I think you have the talent because I know Victor Wanyama. I think for Kenya he is a very good ambassador for this country. He has a good quality and he is doing well in Southampton. I hope and I wish for him that he can join the best team in the Premier League in the future, Arsenal.”

The Gunners are currently without Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla so could target a midfielder as soon as next month, but Wanyama isn’t really the answer.

A big but sluggish powerhouse, Arsenal rely on more technical and intelligent players than Wanyama to exert dominance over affairs. We don’t know whether or not Pirès truly believes Wanyama would be a great signing for Arsène Wenger’s men, but it seems doubtful.
