Another Premier League game, another assist.

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Özil has managed 12 assists and two goals in his 14 Premier League appearances this season, and is showing no signs of stopping.

Champions League action has brought another two goals, and Özil feels he has never played as well as he is right now.

“This season is the strongest season I’ve played,” the World Cup winner said after the 3-1 defeat of Sunderland on Saturday afternoon. “I’m in a good way and playing really well.

“The main thing is that you stay healthy, stay fit. I believe in myself.”

Özil recently set a new Premier League record for consecutive games assisted in, and remains on course to beat Thierry Henry’s Premier League record for assists in a single season.

Currently creating more chances – and goals – than any other player in Europe, Özil’s in superb form and he knows it, but his eyes are still on a much bigger prize than personal success.

“This season has been really good with the number of assists I have, but the most important thing is that we play well as a team and we have to try to stay at the top.”

The win on Saturday left Arsenal second in the Premier League, two points behind table topping Leicester City. Leaping over the Manchester clubs, who both dropped points on the same day, the Gunners are in a great position almost halfway through the season.

If Özil continues to play as well as he has so far, there’s no reason it can’t go on until the end of the season.
