Heading to Greece on the back of a 3-1 defeat of Sunderland in the Premier League, a repeat result would see Arsenal head into the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

The Gunners lost 3-2 to Olympiacos at the Emirates Stadium, so will need a score which would see us through on ‘aggregate’ to succeed.

That means winning, either by scoring three (or more) goals or scoring fewer than three but winning by two.

Mesut Özil has scored in Champions League wins over Bayern Munich and Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League this season and knows Arsenal have their work cut out on Wednesday.

“It will be very hard,” said the German. “Olympiakos can play good football and we saw that at Emirates Stadium. They want to play on the counterattack but we can’t concede goals like we did before again.

“The fans will be behind them and our goal is to beat them. It’s achievable to win there by two goals and that’s what we want to do.”

Simple then, isn’t it?

Not winning would leave Arsenal in the Europa League knockout rounds, but Özil says the players aren’t even considering the idea of failing in Greece.

“We’re not looking at that [getting knocked out],” the playmaker asserted.

“We have the quality to beat them and our goal is not to think about going out of the competition. We want to win this game and get through to the next round.

“We have to be good in defence,” he added. “We know that we have a lot of quality up front, but our goal is to go into half-time ahead and then we will know that everything is possible. We have to also be careful in defence that we don’t concede a goal.”

The entire team will be crucial as Arsenal look to avoid conceding, and Özil will be one of the key men going forward as the team chase the two goals they need.

In 19 Premier League and Champions League games so far this season, the German has four goals and 12 assists. He holds the key on Wednesday, and is more than capable of inspiring Arsenal to the required result.
