David Moyes is currently out of work as a football manager, so was on Sky Sports as a pundit as Arsenal faced Aston Villa on Sunday.

Just before kick-off he managed to prove to everyone why he was in a television studio and not a dugout this weekend.

A connoisseur of bleak football, of course he wouldn’t know about wonderful playmakers, of course he’s stuck in the past and values getting stuck in above pulling the strings. So, David Moyes gave the worst opinion of the season so far.

“I think the jury’s still out on him a bit,” Moyes said of Mesut Özil.

The Scot was confronted by host Ed Chamberlin, who quoted Özil’s stats back to the former Manchester United manager, who went on to say providing chances and assists was just Özil’s job as a number 10.

Yes, that’s absolutely right. The thing is, he has more assist than anyone in Europe. Hell, he has more assists than anyone else has ever had at this stage of a Premier League season. So Mesut Özil isn’t just doing his job, but he’s doing better than anyone else has ever done the same job before. Sunday saw Özil provide his 13th assist in his 15th Premier League appearance this season.

The same can’t be said of Moyes, and never will be. He helped drag Manchester United down to his own level before lasting just one year in the role at Real Sociedad. In the meantime, Özil has proven himself as one of the most influential players in the Premier League and won the World Cup.

Is David Moyes worth another role in football?

I think the verdict’s in, and it doesn’t look good for him.
