Arsenal had three players in Championship action on Saturday, but all were left disappointed by disappointing results.

While the first team were beating Sunderland in Premier League action, Chuba Akpom, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Jon Toral were all on the losing sides in the Championship.

Already out of the FA Cup, York City didn’t have a fixture for Stefan O’Connor to feature in, while Gedion Zelalem’s Rangers side had a game against Raith Rovers postponed due to weather conditions.

Chuba Akpom

Coming off the bench as Hull chased the game at Elland Road, Akpom had a late chance to score an equaliser but headed wide.

You can see the miss here. Playing for a strong Championship side, one goal in his last 18 appearances in the league (11 starts) is a very disappointing return.

Isaac Hayden was an unused sub in the game.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Another start in a more central midfield role for the England u19 international, he impressively won three tackles in just 63 minutes on the pitch.

This stint in a more central role is sure to aid his development, and the 18-year-old has a huge future. He couldn’t, unfortunately, help Ipswich to anything but a 2-0 defeat to high-flying Middlesbrough.

Jon Toral

Starting in an unfamiliar role on the wing, Toral was rarely involved for Birmingham as their bad form continued, allowing Huddersfield Town to win 2-0 at St. Andrews Stadium.
