FA Cup record holders Arsenal start a second consecutive defence of the trophy against Sunderland.

The Gunners beat the Black Cats 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, and will welcome them again for the third round of the FA Cup, which will take place on the weekend starting 9th January.

Back in May, Arsenal beat Aston Villa 4-0 at Wembley to lift the FA Cup for a second year in a row and a record 12th time.

After beating Hull City in the FA Cup Final of 2014, the Gunners faced the Tigers in the third round in January 2015, winning 2-0 on the way to another FA Cup success.

The last time Arsenal met Sunderland in the FA Cup was in 2012, when the Gunners lost at the Stadium of Light. Arsenal have, however, knocked the north-east side out in both 1991 and 1997, so have some positive history against them as an FA Cup opponent.

Perhaps this game will mark the start of another successful FA Cup campaign, and we can win the trophy for a record 13th time.
