Well, that was just about poor enough to ruin Christmas.

With a chance to leap to the top of the Premier League table, Arsenal collapsed to lose 4-0 to Southampton. Nobody performed particularly well, but who was the worst of the lot?

Petr Čech – 3

His worst performance for Arsenal since his Premier League debut for the club back in August. Failed to command his area well and looked a little shaky all evening. Should have come out for the corner which saw Rui Fonte score Southampton’s third goal.

Héctor Bellerín – 4

He wasn’t totally absent, which is more of an insult to other players than a compliment to him. The Spaniard was, however, poor in possession as he was isolated high up the pitch.

Per Mertesacker – 4

Unfairly and ludicrously blamed for the first goal, he wasn’t too bad in the first half despite Robbie Savage and Glenn Hoddle’s attempts to lay fault for everything at the German’s feet.

Laurent Koscielny – 3

After a superb run of form, Koscielny didn’t step up. Let Shane Long get the better of him far too often, though the trip for the second goal was a foul.

Nacho Monreal – 7

Probably Arsenal’s best player. He’s been our most consistent player all season, and didn’t disappoint again. Driving runs inside were our biggest threat in the first half, and the left-back was hardly culpable for defensive mishaps.

Mathieu Flamini – 4

Can’t really build play up and doesn’t tend to hold a good defensive shape. Find us a midfielder, Arsène.

Aaron Ramsey – 6

Along with Monreal, Ramsey was probably the only player to find something similar to his usual form. Some excellent touches and good runs, he was ok but left to run the midfield all on his own.

Joel Campbell – 3

After his best Arsenal performance in midweek, this was terrible. Never wanting the ball, never daring to run for it.

Mesut Özil – 5

Struggled to influence the game thanks to the constant ankle snapping of Victor Wanyama and Jordy Clasie.

Theo Walcott – 4

Was ok on the ball, but rarely got on it.

Olivier Giroud – 5

Started really well, but faded with the rest of the side. It’s hard when you’re so isolated due to the inadequacies of your teammates, so I have some sympathy.
