As usual, Wenger has come out in support of Santi Cazorla after the midfielder missed a penalty late in the second half in our 2-1 loss against West Brom.

The Spaniard stepped up to the spot in the final five minutes against the Baggies with a chance to put us on level terms. Unfortunately, he completely mis-kicked it off his other leg and managed to sky the ball over the bar and give away a free kick.

Yeah… I’m not sure if a penalty can go worse to be honest.

“I have seen a few but I don’t really know what happened,” Wenger admitted.

“You can talk to him and he is so disappointed and it is difficult to blame Cazorla for that. We have to take it on the chin and bounce back in our next game.”

The thing is, if my Twitter feed was anything to go by, no one thought for a second that Santi was actually going to score it. As great as his ability is, the midfielder just doesn’t perform well under pressure.

As one of the more senior players, we need the likes to Cazorla to be able to step up and score those goals. If we can’t have faith in our own players, who can we have faith in?

Although Wenger insists it wasn’t Santi’s fault, and there was a bit of talk online about West Brom digging out the penalty spot, the Spaniard really should be doing better in those situations.

I love Santi to bits and realise that he will be disappointed, but he should be.
