Arsene Wenger decided to take a trip down memory lane recently and reminisce about one of his top bargain buys: Patrick Vieira.

He loves a bargain does our Arsene and it turns out one of his favourite buys since being at Arsenal was Vieira.

“I can tell you I bought Patrick Vieira for £2.5m and it was a top bargain because he was a top-quality player,” the boss said, adding, “It would be difficult to repeat these kind of buys now.”

Indeed, I don’t think you could even buy a Premier League player’s shooting leg for £2.5m nowadays.

Saying this, the boss was quick to point out that he will spend money on the right player, using Ozil and Alexis as examples.

But that’s how Wenger has turned Arsenal into such a powerhouse. He’s spent when he needs to and paid what he sees fit. However, he also knows who and what to look for, and how to negotiate a good deal. It’s why when we do spend a lot of money on a player, I trust that Wenger knows exactly what he’s doing.
