Despite most of us wanting to forget our 2-1 loss to West Brom at the Hawthorns, it keeps getting brought up.

Through no fault of his own, Wenger had to face more questioning in his pre-Norwich press conference and this time attempted to use maths to explain the embarrassing defeat.

“We won 37 times in the last 25 games before West Brom, when we scored first we won 25 times,” he said.

“You have to consider that mathematically as an accident.”

The thing is, he has a point. Although at the time I was livid and totally blamed us for being incompetent, Bellerin for his positioning, Santi for missing that bloomin’ penalty and the Baggies for parking the bus, the truth is, it was a freak incident.

On any other day, we wouldn’t have lost two players in the same game (except maybe against Sheffield Wednesday…), Santi would have slotted that penalty into the top corner, Ozil’s ball off the post would have gone a couple of inches to the left, Campbell wouldn’t miss that sitter and West Brom would have switched off and let Alexis run into space.

C’est la vie.
