Arsenal legend David Seaman has hailed new goalkeeper Petr Cech, calling him a ‘winner’, but also added that we do need to add more players of his calibre if we’re going to win the title.

Seaman will go down in history as one of the best goalkeepers to ever play for Arsenal and for him to heap so much praise onto Cech is very telling.

So far this season, the former Chelsea man has been huge for us and made multiple vital saves. However, Seaman does believe that we need more if we’re going to truly challenge for the Premiership.

“Cech is a winner,” he said. “He is top class – up there with the best in the world.

“He’s won more than trophies than I have – when he was at Chelsea. He’s achieved everything in the game.”

The former footballer continued, “Arsenal have not won a lot in the last few years. OK, two FA Cups. But on the whole they’ve been close or thereabouts.

“So by showing they can get that quality player in is great for the rest of the squad. We need a couple more with his quality in the January transfer window.”

The pressure has only been piled onto Wenger even more now that it looks as if Coquelin has sustained a knee injury, with rumours circulating that the Frenchman could be out for months. If we didn’t need a defensive midfielder before, we definitely need one now.

I’m sure Wenger’s well aware of the injury situation currently at Arsenal – after all, this is hardly the first time this has happened…
