A strong performance and a 3-0 win against Dinamo Zagreb kept Arsenal’s Champions League hopes alive on Tuesday night.

The Gunners went into the game knowing they had to make up ground on Olympiacos before visiting the Greek side in a fortnight, and did just that by beating the Croatian champions at the Emirates Stadium thanks to goals from Mesut Özil and Alexis Sánchez.

A positive night all round as Joel Campbell impressed at last and Aaron Ramsey returned from injury, how does each player rate individually?

Petr Čech – 6

This rating isn’t a comment on Čech, but on the defensive work of the entire side. The 33-year-old faced just one shot on target all night, and that came late on from outside the area.

No mistakes, no fuss. An easy night in goal.

Héctor Bellerín – 7

A better performance after struggling at the weekend, Bellerín impressed on the front foot and combined well with Joel Campbell on the wing ahead of him.

Per Mertesacker – 6

A solid night for Mertesacker who, like Čech, had very little to do.

Laurent Koscielny – 6

Just like his German partner, a quiet but confident evening from the defender.

Nacho Monreal – 8

He gave a strong defensive performance and was brilliant on the ball. Monreal’s composure in the opposition box saw him assist Alexis’ second goal to put Arsenal 2-0 up.

Mathieu Flamini – 6

Did what he had to do, but little more. His performance included a few typical Flamini moments of clattering into opposition players. His passing wasn’t incisive but he helped move the ball to more dangerous players as often as he could.

Santi Cazorla – 7.5

A better showing after recent weeks, Cazorla’s brilliant work led to Mesut Özil scoring Arsenal’s opener. Completed all seven attempted take-ons, a high for the match, and played more passes (66) than anyone else on the pitch.

Joel Campbell – 8

Albeit against weaker opposition, this was easily Campbell’s best game for Arsenal so far. He started brightly in the first half and found Alexis wonderfully for the final goal of the game. Premier League games will be tougher than this, but he should take some confidence from a good performance.

Mesut Özil – 9

He scored the opener and created more chances than anyone else yet again. He now has three goals and eight assists in his last nine Arsenal appearances and is making the team tick. A rare goal was courtesy of an even rarer Özil header.

Alexis Sánchez – 8.5

After frustrating with his reluctance to release the ball early on, Alexis grew into the game and crossed for Mesut Özil to head home before scoring twice himself. His first was simple, the second excellently taken. He also should have had a penalty and looked better up front than out wide.

Olivier Giroud – 5

Struggled badly on the night. A good run gave Özil space for the opener, but Giroud was subbed after 67 minutes.

Aaron Ramsey – 6.5

Some nice touches on his comeback from injury, hopefully he will be ready to start at the weekend. His understanding of space is unparalleled in the Arsenal squad.
