Gary Neville has taken a swipe at Arsenal’s midfield after we drew at home against Spurs in the league.

The former Man United man believes we have big issues in our central midfield and if they’re not sorted, we can’t win the league.

“It’s the one big black mark that I’ve got over Arsene Wenger these last 10 years – why hasn’t he identified the issue with central midfield because they cannot win the league with these types of players. It can’t happen,” Neville said.

While my initial reaction is to jump to our midfield’s defence, in recent games it’s hard to ignore the gaping holes that seem to be popping up in the middle of the pitch.

Although it’s not a new problem, in our first half performance against Swansea it was almost as if we were playing without a midfield at all. We appeared to sort this out in the second half but the problems returned against Bayern, where we lost 5-1, and then again against Spurs on Sunday.

Many believe it’s because Coquelin and Cazorla just don’t play well together. However, if it’s this simple, why isn’t Wenger sorting it? Is he too stubborn and not willing to allow Arteta a starting role again? Only time will tell.
