Per Mertesacker has been serving up a portion of cold, hard reality after our 1-1 draw against Spurs and admitted that we won a ‘good point’.

Arsenal’s performance in the first half against our north London rivals was terrible. We had a couple of periods of decent football but ultimately we were lacking in all areas. Poor Santi, who had to be taken off at half time because he felt dizzy, wasn’t playing like the footballer we know and everyone else looked knackered.

With this in mind, the captain admitted that it was a good point and although we improved slightly in the second half, Spurs were excellent.

“I think it’s a good point for us in terms of how we played the first half,” the defender admitted.

“We approached the second half a bit differently, fought for each other in a different way, had some good chances from set-pieces and that says a lot about the game.

“In the end it’s a good point for us. Obviously you want more when you equalise but we have to be happy after the first half. They pressed us really well and as soon as they stopped a little bit, we took more initiative.”

Spurs completely managed to stifle our midfield, which is usually where our creativity comes from. We were lacklustre and couldn’t even manage to pass the ball to each other. Spurs were sharper and they were on top of every misplaced pass. Arsenal looked weak by comparison.

I have to agree with Per: it’s a good point.
