Are Manchester United about to launch a move for an Arsenal target?

According to the Telegraph, talented Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez is on Arsenal’s radar but it is the Red Devils who are most heavily interested.

Anthony Martial has struggled to adjust to the Premier League despite impressing early on, with Louis van Gaal moving him out wide and failing to play around him as a focal point up front. Meanwhile Wayne Rooney is struggling terribly for form no matter what position he is played in, so Manchester United could certainly do with another option up front.

Since joining Newcastle in the summer of 2014, Perez has been very impressive in a generally underwhelming side. Three goals in 10 Premier League appearances so far this season looks disappointing, but all three have come in just five starts as a striker.

Last season, his first in England, saw Perez score seven times before he went through a terrible patch with Newcastle falling from a race for Europe into a relegation scrap.

The all-round game of the Spaniard is impressive and at 22 he has plenty of room to improve, but Arsenal still have options and Newcastle would be unlikely to sell cheaply. At this moment in time he isn’t an upgrade on what we have.

However, if Danny Welbeck continues to have issues with his return to fitness, Perez may well be an option. That is, if he isn’t a Manchester United player by then.
