Another successful weekend for Arsenal, and the loanees didn’t do too bad either.

Three Arsenal youngsters started for three Championship clubs, picking up seven points and not conceding once between them. Jon Toral also featured, but only from the bench.

Emiliano Martinez & Jon Toral

Another clean sheet for Emi Martinez, as Wolves won 2-0 in their derby at Birmingham City. Making five claims as well as four saves, the Argentine seemed to command his box well. That’ll be good news for everyone at Arsenal, after he fumbled a cross against Derby a couple of weeks ago. Martinez has now kept five clean sheets in his last eight appearances.

Jon Toral came off the bench for the final 23 minutes with the scores at 1-0 but couldn’t have a positive influence on proceedings.

Chuba Akpom

Playing 70 minutes on Saturday, Akpom justified his selection by putting the opener on a plate for Ahmed Elmohamady. No player played more than Akpom’s two key passes on the day, even though he only completed 64% of his attempted passes.

A good day all around for Chuba!

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Starting and playing 81 minutes on Saturday, 18-year-old Maitland-Niles helped Ipswich Town to a 0-0 draw against Cardiff.

Struggling to influence the game going forward, Maitland-Niles made an impressive four  tackles at Portman Road. Only Ipswich defender Christoph Berra attempted more.

The Arsenal loanee also made a couple of interceptions; it’s nice to see a young midfielder happy to get involved to win the ball back when a game is a bit grittier than would perhaps suit him.

Generally a successful day for our loanees. Hull are second in the Championship right now, with Wolves and Ipswich safely in mid-table. Keep up the good work, lads!
