Two Arsenal legends came head to head in the international arena on Wednesday night with Alexis Sánchez’ Chile hosting David Ospina’s Colombia in a World Cup qualifier.

Ok, perhaps legends is a bit of an exaggeration. Regardless, Chile played Colombia and we had two players involved.

It took just over a minute for Alexis to unleash a strong effort, but Ospina tipped the ball over the bar to win the first encounter of the game. The rest of the first half remained relatively quiet, though both sides looked to attack at a high tempo.

The game seemed certain to be goalless at the break, but Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal powered a header beyond Ospina to give Chile the lead.

On the balance of play, James Rodriguez’ struck a deserved equaliser with just over 20 minutes remaining. Colombia had looked more solid after the break while threatening on the counter.

So, 90 minutes for Alexis and a slightly understated performance once again. He looks tired but he’s too important for Jorge Sampaoli not to play him. On the other side, Ospina gave a strong enough performance.

Elsewhere, Gabriel would have been hoping to win his Brazil debut against Argentina but the game in Buenos Aires was postponed due to torrential rain and puddles on the pitch.
