Our giant German, Per Mertesacker, was delighted with our performance in our 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Recent results haven’t been going our way and our performances on the pitch have been looking a little lacklustre. We’ve had a shed-load of injuries and with players like Rambo out, our creativity took a hit.

Even though Ramsey didn’t make his anticipated return until the latter stages of the match against Zagreb, the performance was an entirely different one to recent matches and we managed to score three goals.

The captain praised our attacking style after the match, saying, “It was a massive win for our side and I’m delighted with how we played from the start. It was an attacking style, and we got two early goals.

“We could have been three or four up at half-time and it was convincing at the end.”

The centre back also acknowledged just how much we needed that win, not just in terms of potentially progressing to the knock-out stages of the Champions League, but for the team as a whole. No matter how professional players are – or claim to be – a string of bad results isn’t exactly going to have a positive effect on the squad.
