Jack Wilshere says that Arsenal don’t need to buy any new players in January, as the midfielder revealed his confidence in the current squad and their ability to challenge properly for the Premier League this season.

A guest on Goals on Sunday, Wilshere was asked what he thought about Arsenal only bringing in Petr Cech during the summer and if he thought the squad needed more players.

Hailing the signing of Cech from Chelsea as ‘massive‘, he was then asked if not bringing in new players meant that the squad felt more settled as there were no extra newbies to settle in.

“I think it’s always difficult when a new player comes in,” Jack said. “Not just for the player themselves but for those around him.”

“People were saying we needed a striker but we’ve got two,” Jack added before going on to highlight the differences in the games of Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud, seeming more than happy with the firepower at the club before saying “We know the quality we have in midfield. Santi, Mesut around the box can really hurt teams.”

Jack also didn’t think that Arsenal needed to bring in any defensive reinforcements when the window opens in January, praising Gabriel for settling in after his first half season in England.

While the debate will always rage amongst fans about whether or not we need more players, it’s always good to hear on of the players themselves reinforcing the manager’s belief that we have more than enough to challenge for the title this season.

Whether we can keep what we have in full working order, however, is another matter altogether.
