Nacho Monreal believes Hector Bellerin is ‘one of the best’ full backs and that the 20-year-old will continue to be in the future.

The left back sang the youngster’s praises recently, hailing Bellerin’s maturity and describing him as a ‘revelation’ to your current team.

“He is very young and is only 20 years-old and plays with incredible maturity on the pitch,” Nacho said. “I think he is one of the best full backs and will be in the future as well. He has a very long career ahead of him and he has been showing his quality and it is a pleasure to play along side him.

“Hector is simply a revelation this season and also last season as well. There are good times and there are bad times in a season. At the moment things are going very well and the whole team is working very well and we are in good form.”

The Spaniard is absolutely right.

Bellerin’s involvement in the squad was by complete chance and a risk on Wenger’s part. After the more experienced Mathieu Debuchy picked up an injury last season and Calum Chambers suffered a bout of illness, Bellerin got the opportunity to get a regular starting spot in the first 11.

The defender impressed during his first few matches and kept his place long after Chambers returned. The main test was whether he could hang onto it after Debuchy came back, which he did.

Bellerin is now a huge part of not just our defence but our attack as well. While the more senior Monreal sits back, the youngster is free to tear down the flanks at rapid pace, overlapping with our forwards and causing the opposition all kinds of problems.

Despite being so young and relatively new to competitive football, Bellerin has stepped up to the plate and delivered under immense pressure.

To hear someone like Monreal, who’s also been unreal for us over the last season, complimenting his game must be hugely encouraging.
