After a difficult period recently, Olivier Giroud finally scored two goals for France against Denmark and the France manager, Didier Deschamps, has explained the trust he has in the striker.

Speaking after the match, the manager said that, despite not getting played as regularly as he’d like, “When he comes in, he still scores goals.”

Giroud’s been through the ringer recently but the majority of Arsenal fans weren’t actually concerned. Most players go through rough patches and when you’re a striker, it’s easier to spot because of the lack of goals. Along with goalkeepers, the striker is one of the most scrutinised position, so it’s no wonder the 29-year-old let criticism get to him.

Fortunately, due to the faith of Deschamps, Giroud got the chance to play and show what he’s capable of.

But will Wenger do the same? Although it’s unlikely that he’s replace Theo Walcott in the starting lineup with the form he’s in, Wenger is still giving him game time, albeit minimal, and perhaps he has an opportunity to edge his way back in. To do this, he needs to keep performing when he does get the chance and fight for a starting spot.
