Four Arsenal players made their debut against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night, as the Gunners lost 3-0 to the Championship side.

Alex Iwobi and Glen Kamara both started for Arsène Wenger’s team, with 17-year-old Ismarl Bennacer and Krystian Bielik also coming off the bench to make their debuts.

However, they pretty much all looked out of their depth. Bielik was the most encouraging of the debutants but didn’t come on until the game was over, and Wenger admitted to Sky after the game that they shouldn’t be playing at that level yet.

“It was too high for them, they’re not ready to play at this level. None of them.”

Some of Arsenal’s more encouraging youngsters, the ones who are ready, are out on loan at the moment but these kids showed why they haven’t been sent to the Championship to gain experience just yet.

Even in the near future they could make it at Arsenal but it is clearly far too early to be relying on them, and Wenger knows it. It was very unlike the manager to be so honest about his players in a negative way so publicly but, in this case, the evidence of the 90 minutes that has just passed was plain for all to see.
