On Thursday, comments from Arsène Wenger at the Arsenal AGM were interpreted in such a way to suggest he would leave the club in 2017.

Leading national newspapers actually said he would not sign another deal with the club, but the manager told Sky Sports that simply isn’t the case, but his comments had been interpreted to mean that.

Has Wenger signed his final Arsenal deal?

“No, it has been interpreted like that,” the manager said after watching his side’s 3-0 defeat of Watford on Saturday evening. “Honestly I don’t know, when do I stop? I want to do well and when do I stop, I don’t know yet. We’ll see.”

Does that mean he’s decided to sign another deal to stay at the club beyond 2017?

“Not yet, no.”

Speaking at Thursday’s AGM, Wenger mentioned the legacy he will leave at the club and said the next manager would find a strong situation to work with when he arrives at the club. That’s barely a shock: we’re in a very good position and are spending big on improving our youth system.

Maybe everyone read into Wenger’s words just a little too much during the week. 19 years at Arsenal, he doesn’t seem to be counting down the days just yet.
