Arsene Wenger reckons Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Bayern Munich will be huge for our self belief going forward.

So far this season we haven’t had the best luck in Europe. We lost both of our first matches against Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos and didn’t look particularly promising.

Wenger’s controversial choice of Ospina over Cech in both matches made many a little nervous. Picking a sub-par goalkeeper over your newly acquired world class one seemed a little odd and probably sent a message to the rest of the team that the result didn’t really matter. As a result, we appeared lacklustre and naive.

Wenger pointed out post-match, “It can strengthen our belief and those around us.”

The win against Bayern isn’t just huge in terms of our Champions League campaign but also our self belief. We now know we can win – we’re capable of beating the best.

The boss also pointed out how our clean sheet was just as important as the goal we scored. No other team has been able to keep the Bundesliga giants out this season and the fact that we have will do our confidence the world of good.

“It is important we have good balance between attacking and defending,” Wenger said.

“Overall we have beaten a very strong team. We kept a clean sheet as well.”
