England are heading to Euro 2016 and will be seeded for the group stage draw, but Theo Walcott isn’t done with the qualifying rounds just yet.

The forward’s focus is only on the game against Lithuania on Monday, as England chase a perfect record. His goal set the Three Lions on the way to a ninth win out out of nine in qualification so far.

“Having nine wins after the disappointment from the World Cup and bouncing back the way the players have done – the backroom staff have changed things and things are working for us. This team is definitely hungry and eager to do well,” said the Arsenal forward.

“We want to make it 10 on Monday night. It is a nice little thing to have.”

The big test, however, is still yet to come. England face friendlies against France, Spain and Germany before the European Championships next summer.

At the major tournament itself, Roy Hodgson’s side will have massive tests to go deep into the competition. No England team has ever beaten a major nation in a knockout game that hasn’t taken place at Wembley. Those are the sort of tests England must overcome, so Walcott knows the importance held by the friendlies.

“We want to win every game but we will be more tested in these friendlies coming up (against France and Spain next month) and everyone wants to win competitions and make this country proud.

“There are some young, eager faces in that dressing room who are keen to do well but we are only going to be judged when it comes to tournament football.”

That, at the end of the day, is the thing. Nobody cares about qualifying, whether you scrape through or win every game.

Walcott wants a tenth win a row on Monday, but England have to deliver where it really matters.
