Saturday’s trip to Watford will be a testing one. The Hornets have only conceded one goal – a penalty – in four games at Vicarage Road so far this season.

Since the start of the 2013/14 season, no team has won more points than the 78 Arsenal have picked up from 42 games on the road. Manchester City have won 77 points in that time (and the same number of games) and Chelsea have won 76. Clearly, our away form is that of a title winner.

“Away from home, our results in the last two years have been very strong and championship [winning] stuff. But we know that the Premier League is more difficult every year as well,” Arsène Wenger said at Thursday’s press conference, and the numbers prove him right.

No team other than the three mentioned above has won 70 points from their last 42 Premier League away games, and Manchester City and Chelsea have won the two Premier League titles in that tie. It’s clear where we have fallen behind them.

Home form is what needs to be improved, and our away form must be maintained starting with Saturday’s game at Vicarage Road.

Watford will be a good test, they’ve taken points from West Brom, Southampton and Swansea at home this season and only lost to Crystal Palace thanks to a penalty. Ultimately, we have to make the most of our strong away form and add to the nine points we’ve already picked up away from the Emirates Stadium this season. Then, once we back it up with strong home form, we can mount a title challenge.
