Sir Alex Ferguson has compared Arsene Wenger to himself and sympathised that if he had been in the same position, his career and the issues the boss has faced during his, would be similar.

The former Man United boss has spoken about Wenger’s philosophy at Arsenal and, despite what most media outlets are trying to insinuate, actually says that if he had been in Arsene’s position at Arsenal, he might have had a similar career.

“It’s just like me if I hadn’t progressed the club after the ’94 team or the ’99 team I would maybe having the same problems as Arsene, but he’s stayed with his conviction, he’s stayed with what he believes in,” Fergie said.

Although Fergie does say that club has stood still, I’m not sure it’s meant as a dig at the club or manager. He appears to just be comparing his time at the Red Devils to Arsenal.

In the past, I would have instantly thought the ex-United man was slating Wenger but after the two seem to have allowed bygones to be bygones lately, it seems a tad out of character to suddenly take a cheap shot.
