Sunday morning saw many of us wake to headlines screaming about David Ospina returning to the Arsenal side for the game against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

The first thing I did when I started reading the piece in the Express that cried out ‘Arsene Wenger to show Arsenal doubters who’s boss by backing David Ospina’ was check the date – surely it couldn’t have been written *after* the Colombian had missed out against Watford due to a ‘sore shoulder’?

No such luck.

The piece also made no mention of the injury whatsoever, appearing like it was written before Saturday’s game, held until Sunday morning and published with no update for changing circumstances.

So will David Ospina be trusted in the Arsenal goal against the German champions? That’s a hard one to call.

For a start, he might genuinely be injured in which case all of this is really quite irrelevant. He might also be injured but fit enough to be emergency cover.

Then again, Wenger might have planned to use Cech all along against Pep’s men meaning that Ospina was always going to miss out, or the boss might drop him – although his comments in defence of his underfire keeper would suggest that to be an unlikely option.

We all know that Wenger doesn’t drop players anyway. They get injuries, minor ones that leave them sidelined for a few weeks. Like ‘sore shoulders’.

That’s where my money is, but whatever the truth behind Ospina’s absence on Saturday, I’d be positively astounded if Cech wasn’t in goal when we kick-off on Tuesday evening.
