Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey finally netted his first Premier League goal of the season on Saturday evening, as the Gunners beat Watford 3-0.

A stubborn Watford defence kept the Gunners out for just over an hour before Alexis Sánchez fired home the opening goal. Within 12 minutes it was 3-0, and Ramsey’s first goal of the season put the result beyond doubt.

“It was a difficult first hallf, they pressed us really well, but we stuck to the game plan, and our quality showed in the second half,” the midfielder told Sky Sports immediately after the match.

“The pitch was quite dry, they didn’t water it and that took the zip out of it. We had to get the ball, switch sides, combine in the box which we did in the second half well.”

The Welshman had a number of efforts before his goal finally came, putting Arsenal’s best chance of the first half over from just a few yards out.

He never hides when things are going badly though and, not without a stroke of fortune, grabbed his first Arsenal goal of the season just days after he netted for the 10th time for his country.

“It’s been a while since I scored for Arsenal, so I’m delighted. I’ll take anything at the moment, but I’m delighted it went in.”

Who knows, maybe this will even be the start of a run. Ramsey’s all-round game is great but without more goals from out wide, people will question whether or not he merits his place in the team. Santi Cazorla and Mesut Özil both arguably don’t score as many as they should, so it’s crucial Ramsey continues to chip in.
