Well that was embarrassing…

Just when you think the team have turned a corner and won’t allow themselves to naively wander into cup matches as if we don’t have a care in the world, we do just that.

We didn’t look cohesive in the slightest and although there were young players out there, we should still be beating Sheffield Wednesday and definitely shouldn’t be losing by such a scoreline.

To top it off, we lost two of our best players to injury.

What a great evening.

Petr Cech – 6

Although he had several goals put past him, they were mainly the fault of our shoddy defence.

Mathieu Debuchy – 3

Yet again, the Frenchman proved why Bellerin is starting ahead of him in the Premier League – and most other matches. He was slow, out of position most of the time and even managed to potentially get an own goal.

Calum Chambers – 4

The youngster gave another uninspiring performance at centre back and allowed Wednesday to have all the space they wanted in our area.

Per Mertesacker – 4

You know it’s a bad night when even Per is making strange defensive decisions. Particularly for their third, he was looking right at the player yet made no attempt to prevent him from scoring.

Kieran Gibbs – 4

The left back showed signs of wanting to get forward and attack early on but this was soon snuffed out.

Mathieu Flamini – 4

For the first goal, he was practically on top of the scorer, yet didn’t do anything.

Glen Kamara – 4

His Arsenal debut could have gone better. However, he wasn’t the worst player on the pitch and began maturely.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – N/A

Injured within minutes.

Joel Campbell – 4.5

His miscommunication with Debuchy meant we were left with huge gaps. However, I’ve given him a 0.5 for the time when he lost the ball and chased it down like a man possessed to get it back.

Alex Iwobi – 5

One of our least terrible players on the pitch, but this doesn’t say much.

Olivier Giroud – 4

Did he even touch the ball?

SUBS

Theo Walcott – N/A

Got injured within minutes of coming on.

Ismael Bennacer – 4

No offense to the lad but I barely noticed him on the pitch.

Krystian Bielik – N/A
