Arsenal’s Mesut Özil will be a little relieved, as he helped world champions Germany book their place at Euro 2016.

A tricky qualifying faze was finally ended when Germany snuck past Georgia with a surprisingly close 2-1 victory.

Despite Özil’s best efforts to assist Marco Reus, Germany went into the break with the score tied at 0-0, were the world champions starting to sweat? This glorious pass wasn’t converted, which is a great shame.

The second half was actually worse form Germany, but they did manage to break the deadlock. Özil won a penalty which was converted by Thomas Müller. Germany and Bayern Munich have never lost when he has scored, that record remains after Sunday evening. Arsenal will be eager to keep him off the scoresheet when they meet Bayern in the Champions League next week.

A swift equaliser from Georgia was a huge shock, and heroics from Manuel Neuer were required to keep the score level. Were Germany really going to lose at home to Georgia and fail to qualify for Euro 2016?

No. Mesut played another beautiful pass, this time finding VfL Wolfsburg striker Max Kruse, who added the finish.

Congratulations to Mesut for qualifying! The best news of all: another international break he has managed to come through unscathed.
