Mesut Özil is on international duty over the next few days, but he’s still thinking about Arsenal.

And who wouldn’t be? After such a scintillating performance against Manchester United, it’s only natural that the Arsenal midfielder would be eager to play for his club as soon as possible.

The 3-0 win at Emirates Stadium saw Özil net his first goal of the season, as well as laying Alexis Sánchez’ opener all within the space of just over a minute. Now, the German playmaker thinks the Gunners should be in high spirits ahead of the visit of Bayern Munich shortly after the international break ends.

“The win against Manchester United was also a signal – if we play like that and want it 100 percent, then we can beat Bayern too,” Özil told Bild in an interview before Germany’s European Championships qualifying match against the Republic of Ireland on Thursday.

“We’re playing at home. We certainly have respect for Bayern but we’re not afraid of them.

“We know how to score goals against Bayern and can be successful. It will be difficult but we have the potential to beat any team.”

The Champions League seems a long way off for Arsenal right now, after we lost our first two group games to Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos. Bayern have won both fixtures so far, scoring eight without conceding, and beat Borussia Dortmund 5-1 at the weekend, so the outlook is fairly bleak.

Domestically, things are going much better and Özil is targeting the Premier League title.

“We have a super team with a lot of world-class players,” the midfielder added. “Our goal is to win the Premier League.

“I think it is possible this season if everyone stays fit. But the season is long.”

The game against Manchester United seems to have reinvigorated everyone, and so it should have.
