Alex Iwobi has signed a new contract at Arsenal.

The winger has been on the outskirts of the first team squad this season but is yet to make his official debut for the club. Able to play on either wing, Iwobi is tricky yet unselfish.

He caught the eye in pre-season and bagged his first Emirates Stadium goal in the Emirates Cup win over Olympique Lyonnais, earning himself a place on the bench for the Community Shield a week later.

Iwobi is currently away on international duty for the first time, having been called up by Nigeria. The player’s uncle, Jay-Jay Okocha is a household name after his time in England at Bolton Wanderers and captained the Super Eagles.

Everyone at Daily Cannon is pleased to see a young talent sign a new deal and hope to see more of Iwobi over the course of the season. So far he has two goals in five games for the u21s and has played in the UEFA Youth League wins over Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos for the u19s.

The contract has been described as a “long-term” deal by the club, so we imagine it will run for either four or five years.

He has been linked with a loan move, but we suspect Arsenal would like to keep him around for cup competitions.
