After having a rocky time on loan, Carl Jenkinson has finally scored for West Ham!

The defender, who in now well into his second season with the Hammers, has had a turbulent time with injuries and red cards but now he’s finally netted his first goal.

The goal itself came at a particularly important time. Sunderland were running the show against West Ham, putting the Irons down to 2-0 with goals from Fletcher and Lens, who was later sent off in the 57th minute. However, plucky Jenko stepped up in first half extra time and scored the first of goal of what would be a resilient comeback against the Black Cats.

The match ended in a 2-2 draw with Payet scoring the second for West Ham.

Although, as a defender, goalscoring isn’t necessarily part of Jenko’s game, it can’t hurt to get some attacking experience under his belt, especially when his team are on the ropes.

It’ll be a huge boost for the kid.
