Petr Čech seems to have something over Bayern Munich and their players, and it continued on Tuesday evening.

A fine performance was rewarded with clean sheet for the 33-year-old, following some brilliant saves. One man more than most seems to have taken it pretty hard.

Lewandowski was facing Čech at club level for the first time in Arsenal’s 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium, but had already drawn three international blanks against the Czech Republic international.

“I have never yet managed to score a goal against him,” the in-form Polish striker told Reuters after the match.

“Not a single goal. And that is despite facing him when Poland have played the Czech Republic at international level as well. It is one of those quirks you get in football.

“He is an absolutely excellent goalkeeper.”

Čech prevented Lewandowski from netting for the 17th time of the season in Bayern colours with a brilliant save as the game entered its final stages.

With Arsenal heading to Munich in less than a fortnight and Poland playing the Czech Republic in November’s international break, Lewandowski is already looking to get one over the legendary goalkeeper.

“It is good to immediately have another chance to try to beat him in the coming weeks, with Arsenal visiting Bayern, and in another Poland match against the Czech Republic next month.

“That match is only a friendly but there is a big rivalry between us and it will be an important part of both our preparations for Euro 2016.”

Hopefully Lewandowski is kept waiting a little longer, as any positive result at the Allianz Arena would be huge for Arsenal.

As for Čech, his Arsenal career has started superbly and he simply has to keep it going.
