Beating Bayern Munich on Tuesday was huge, but Arsenal still have a huge amount of work to do to qualify from their Champions League group.

Things didn’t look too bad with Olympiacos drawing with Dinamo Zagreb. Arsenal would have been on three points, just one point behind both of those teams and still a game to come against each of them.

Unfortunately, a 79th minute goal from Brown Ideye gave Olympiacos all three points and has left Group F looking like this:

When Arsenal play in Munich in a fortnight, Olympiacos host the Croatian champions and will be confident of winning once more. That would leave them on nine points with two games to play.

A result in Munich would be absolutely huge for the Gunners, who will otherwise need to win both remaining group games to go through.

Goal difference is only the second tie breaker in the Champions League, with the direct record against a team you’re level on points with considered first. Should Arsenal lose to Bayern and beat Dinamo Zagreb, and if those two results were mirrored by the Greek side, Arsène Wenger’s men would have to win by two in Greece.

Everything would look a lot nicer had the other two sides drawn last night, but nothing can ever be easy and we only have ourselves to blame for this situation.

Now we’ve given ourselves a shot, we have to do everything we can to take it.
