Throughout the summer, Juventus defender Daniele Rugani was linked with a move to Arsenal.

The young Italian is a hugely talented centre-half but, with so many established defenders at the Italian giants, is not exactly a regular starter. As a result, a few teams saw this summer as an opportunity to tempt him into a move but to no avail.

According to sources from Sport Witness reports of Arsenal’s interest were accurate, and the Gunners did show an interest in the Italian over the summer. However, the mysterious source also revealed that Rugani himself would have been interested in a move to the Emirates Stadium.

“Of course, if Arsenal or other important English clubs want to buy him with the right offer, the player will be more than happy to move.

“He has the skill, physique and perfect attitude for the Premier League and will be very happy to play in the United Kingdom for top English teams.”

It sounds very much like the player, who was on loan at Empoli last season, is just keeping his options open. The 21-year-old played in all 38 of Empoli’s Serie A games last season but is yet to feature for Juventus in the new campaign.

Of course they are reluctant to sell a huge talent with Giorgio Chiellini 31 years of age and Andrea Barzagli 34, especially as Angelo Ogbonna left for West Ham in the summer, but much longer without regular football and you’d have to imagine Rugani would grow frustrated.

With Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny both in their 30s, it may not be too long until Arsenal are looking around for more defenders to compliments Gabriel and Calum Chambers.
