Olivier Giroud believes that Arsenal’s game against Manchester United this weekend offers them the perfect platform to recover from their midweek shambles in the Champions League.

Speaking to Arsenal player, the Frenchman, who wasn’t available on Tuesday after his red card in the first group game, Giroud was very philosophical about the whole thing, recognising that a big game offers the best opportunity to right a few wrongs.

“It’s a big game,” Giroud said.

“It’s always nice to play a massive game to bounce back. The focus will be even more present than usual.

“We need to learn from our mistakes [against Olympiacos]. When we came back to 2-2 I thought we could have the time to win the game. We still had 15 minutes to score the third goal but we forgot the basics of keeping a good defensive shape.

“We conceded the third goal on a break so it was a disappointing result but it’s like that. It’s part of the past now and we need to focus on bouncing back against Manchester United. It’s a big game.”

I have no doubt that we will see a response from the side against United on Sunday but it is unlikely to completely heal the wounds caused by the failure against Olympiacos.

Also, all this talk of ‘learning lessons’ is beyond tedious as it’s the same thing we hear every time Arsenal underperform and, from an outside perspective, it seems like it is the same lessons they need to keep re-learning.
