Olivier Giroud played just under 10 minutes on Thursday evening as France won 4-0 against Armenia.

As they are hosting Euro 2016, France are only playing friendlies as everyone else completes their qualification campaigns and Giroud has found himself falling down Didier Deschamps’ pecking order.

The Arsenal striker was second choice to Karim Benzema, who scored twice on Thursday, just a few months ago but now seems to be falling further back with Alexandre Lacazette and Anthony Martial both playing more significant roles for the side.

It seems as though Deschamps wants a more fluid formation up front to suit those players, plus Antoine Griezmann, but Giroud just doesn’t fit into that. Earlier in the week the French manager insisted he still has faith in the Arsenal striker, but his cameo performance on Thursday night only came when Karim Benzema had to be subbed off with an injury.

Hopefully Giroud gets more minutes under his belt against Denmark in the next friendly, but it’s hard to see where he will feature for his country at the moment.

Even worse for the striker is the form of Theo Walcott, which seems to be making certain he won’t be starting games for Arsenal in the coming weeks.
