Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Čech is getting a little too used to sitting on the bench and watching on helplessly as his team loses.

David Ospina has played in the goalkeeper’s place twice in the Champions League this season, and Arsenal have lost both games to Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos, conceding five goals in the process.

On international duty, Čech would have hoped to add to his 116 Czech Republic caps on Saturday, but was left on the bench for their European Championships qualifier against Turkey. The result? Czech Republic 0-2 Turkey.

Obviously – like Arsenal’s results with Ospina in goal – the fault can’t lie at the feet of Tomas Vaclik, who won his fourth cap for his country on the night. As current captain of the side, Čech would have wanted to play but Arsène Wenger may have sat at home with a smile on his face.

With Czech Republic already qualified for Euro 2016, there’s a good chance Čech will be on the bench again when they face the Netherlands on Tuesday night. In the next month Arsenal face Bayern Munich twice and, seeing as he may have had a two-week break from the pitch over the international period, there would be no reason not to play Čech in those crucial Champions League games. Fingers crossed.
