Although Arsenal stormed to a 3-0 win against Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday, Per Mertesacker still believes there are improvements which need to be made.

While everyone is still jumping for joy over slotting three past the Red Devils at the Emirates, the captain is analysing how we can improve further and admitted that our defensive display could have been better.

Speaking after the match, the centre-back said, “Defensively it was a tough fight, especially in the second half when Fellaini came on. He is always very physical but we did quite well.

“We gave them two or three chances, but we have a great goalkeeper as well and he did well also, so defensively I think we can build on that.

“Now we have a little break and in two weeks we come together again and we have to remind ourselves what we can do.”

Of course there were some shaky moments. At one stage, striker Anthony Martial was left one-on-one with Cech. Fortunately, as Per said, we have a great goalkeeper who helped us earn a clean sheet.

Although Per says we need to improve defensively and I don’t disagree, we did keep a clean sheet and managed to keep United out even during sustained periods of pressure.

Luckily, there’s more positives to be taken from the game than negatives, which hasn’t always been the case. We now sit second in the league, two points behind City, and ready to fight.
